Quantification bias
Quantification bias is the habit of treating whatever can be counted as important and whatever cannot as unimportant, regardless of which one moves the outcome.
How it works
The bias is not a preference for numbers so much as a preference for defensibility: a number can be shown to someone else and a judgement cannot, so the measurable half of every argument wins by default and the unmeasurable half is never argued at all. There is a number for how long a journey takes and none for how it felt, so the money goes to speed. There is a number for billable hours and none for the colleague who makes everyone else effective. A model that removes human psychology to become tidy has removed the thing that made the question worth asking.
What it changes for a personal brand
Take the one thing you believe matters most about your work that has no number attached, write down what it would look like if it were working, and treat that description as a target rather than a feeling. Your analytics will never once vote for it, so somebody has to.
